Computer engineering is a common discipline that covers theoretical and experimental study of computer systems, structure and applications. The Department of Computer Engineering (CE) at Galatasaray University is focused on computational methods and structures such as algorithmic design, software engineering, programming languages, artificial intelligence and their applications. Department of CE also concentrates on hardware based topics such as computer architecture, computer networks embedded systems, operating systems, databases, parallel and distributed systems.

The mission of the Department of CE is to provide and develop human and intellectual resources that will resolve potential difficulties in the area of computation. This mission includes the education of computer engineers who will be recruited in leading positions as both academic and professional staff. In this context, the aim is to equip the students with superior quantitative reasoning and engineering design abilities through a modern and targeted education.

In addition to the undergraduate program offered by the Department of CE, two graduate programs namely Master of Science in Computer Engineering and Master of Science in Information Technologies are offered by the Institute of Science and Engineering.

In the Department of CE at Galatasaray University, there is a dynamic research environment. The department of CE has academic staff with international research experience devoted to excellence in teaching and research. Main research interests of the faculty members are as follows:

  • Robotics
  • Human-Computer Interface
  • Database Management Systems
  • Parallel Programming
  • Signal and Image Processing
  • Intelligent Vehicle Technologies, Vehicular Networks
  • Data Mining

The UNESCO Chair established in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology at Galatasaray University played an important role in the improvement of the infrastructure of CE by coordinating the foundation of the Computer Integrating Manufacturing (CIM) Laboratory. The cooperation with the Department of Industrial Engineering offers a multidisciplinary approach for the students of Computer Engineering. Students enrolled in CE Department have the opportunity to pursue a double major program with Industrial Engineering Department. Graduates of the double major program are well-prepared for the rapidly changing technological world and will be especially suited for positions where competence in both fields is required.
